Lions win 4th Thanksgiving Day game in a row
His comment didn’t change anything. Leave it to rookie Willie Beavers, who grew up in suburban Detroit, as the latest offensive lineman to spin through the revolving door. They are a good team because they win games and nothing else.
“He made a great run”, Bradford said.
Tebow-mania took over and the unorthodox quarterback got more credit than he deserved for playing on a good team. His return gave the Lions the ball at the Minnesota 20, and although there was some initial question about whether Slay fumbled at the end of the play, the call was upheld. “I’d like to have it back”.
“You go back and look at the football team that we’ve become over the last three years and we’re a team that wins close games and executes in critical situations”, tight end Kyle Rudolph said.
It wasn’t just Minnesota offensive players mad at themselves.
The Minnesota Vikings attempted to papercut the Detroit Lions to death on Thanksgiving. With starting quarterback Matthew Stafford playing red hot football, with a 7th rated QBR of 70.5 and averaging 265 yards per game and 18 touchdowns on the season.
“I don’t know if I’d say ice cold veins”. “They made plays when it counted. We feel like we’re working our tails off to get wins”. And on Thursday, he scampered for a first down on third-and-long – a play that led to a field goal to knot the game at 13 a piece. You start to get into a rhythm and another guy goes down. Now the Lions (7-4) have sole possession of first place after Thursday’s victory. “Hopefully, we can play them in the playoffs and get another shot at them”.
“We just talked about the next game, and that’s all we’re going to continue to talk about, is the next game coming up and the next game after that and the next game after that”, he added. “I’m sure he’ll let you know it’s ‘Big Play Slay'”.
“I think it’s like the last thing they want me to do, is run”, Stafford joked.
That was a 22-16 Minnesota loss November 6 at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Oh, and just a side note here in both of those seasons, the Manning boys led their teams to the Super Bowl.
Detroit now essentially holds a two-game advantage over the Vikings (6-5) because of the head-to-head tiebreaker with five games to play. It was the second time in less than three weeks the Lions have defeated the Vikings on the final play of the game.
The game-winner was set up on Darius Slay’s interception of Minnesota’s Sam Bradford. They lost for the game center Joe Berger at the end of the first quarter with a concussion and tackle Jeremiah Sirles early in the fourth with a hip injury.
At least the Cowboys’ 31-26 win Thursday over Washington helped the Vikings.
“I know what this team can do”, left guard Alex Boone said, when asked after the game what gives him belief in a rebound. “So you can get in trouble”.
Bradford, through a combination of not having enough time to do anything else and knowing that he can’t risk turning the ball over, has pretty much stopped taking the chances that he was taking during Minnesota’s early-season win streak.
Detroit Lions kicker Matt Prater (5) makes a 40-yard winning field goal during the second half of an … And when they do get near the red zone, they’re settling for field goal attempts instead of touchdowns.
DET-Prater 48 yard field goal, 1:45. Minnesota was flagged five times for 40 yards.
