List of nominees for 73rd Golden Globe Awards
FX’s “The Americans”, which seems to singularly suffer the role of best stealth drama (having been ignored for almost every award in its three seasons, other than the prestigious Peabody), maintained that status by escaping Globes notice again this year.
“Carol”, starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, is expected to turn big winners as the period drama has won five nominations, including two under the name of the lead actors.
The Hollywood Foreign Press has announced the list of contenders for the 73 annual Golden Globe Awards on December 10. Actresses Cate and Rooney were both nominated for Best Actress.
Also with four nods is Alejandro Inarritu’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning Birdman: the frontier epic The Revenant, which was nominated for best picture, drama, and best actor for Leonardo DiCaprio.
Lenny Abrahamson, who directed the independent film, described the nominations as an “incredible honour”.
Michael Fassbender’s turn as Apple co-founder Steve Jobs is also a strong contender in this category and so is Bryan Cranston’s performance in the role of a blacklisted Hollywood writer Dalton Trumbo in “Trumbo” and Will Smith for sports thriller “Concussion”. The film was nominated for a Golden Globe award for best motion picture drama on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015.
“The Irish film industry boasts some incredible talent and it is great to see this recognised internationally”, said Arts Minister Heather Humphreys.

Brie Larson – Nominee for Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama “Room”: “Wow”. It will compete against The Big Short, Trainwreck, Joy, and Spy. “Last year, HBO had 15 nods”. Rampling received best actress honors for her performance at the Berlin International Film Festival and was named best actress last week by the Boston and Los Angeles Film Critics. Other films nominated in this category are “The Revenant”, the aforementioned “Carol”, “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “Room”.
