Listen to Beyoncé’s new collaboration with Coldplay, Hymn for the Weekend
Lyrics include “Drink for me, drink for me” and “shoot across the sky”.
The artist graciously provided vocals for “Hymn for the Weekend”, which received its first airplay on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show. “Life’s a drink, and love’s a drug”, he sings, to a floaty piano line and drum fills that sound like clinking glasses.
“I thought I’d like to have a song called “Drinks on Me” where you sit on the side of a club and buy everyone drinks because you’re so f–ing cool”, he told The Wall Street Journal. “We’re on a symphony/ Now I just can’t get enough/ Put your wings on me, wings on me/ When I was so heavy/ We’re on a symphony/ When I’m lower, lower, lower, low”. “Chris asked Beyoncé to sing on it and she very kindly said she would”.
“Then that turned into asking Beyoncé to sing on it”, Martin recalled.
Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman spoke with Mac about how the collaboration came about.
“It actually started off being quite a different kind of vibe, this song”, Berryman said.

Coldplay’s new album A Head Full of Dreams drops on Friday, so prepare accordingly for the chart showdown with Adele. Turns out even Queen Bey can’t do that much with five minutes of studio time, but even professionals know how to bring the party, and her atmospheric contributions are sparse in terms of time only.
