Listeria risk prompts Whole Foods recall
Healthy people may suffer only short-term symptoms such as headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea and high fever, a Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
Citing possible bacterial contamination, Whole Foods Market announced a nationwide recall of pungent Roquefort blue cheese stamped “Papillon Organic”.
Whole Foods (WFM) announced Wednesday that it is recalling all “cut, wrapped and weighed” Papillon Organic Roquefort Cheeses over concerns that it could be contaminated with Listeria.
All of the affected products have been removed from shelves and notice of the recall was posted in the stores, the FDA said in a release. Food and Drug Administration employees found the Listeria bacteria during routine sampling of a whole, uncut wheel of the cheese, Whole Foods said in a statement.
Now there has been no reports from customers who may have purchased the cheese of any illness to date.
All sell by dates are affected by the recall. People can identify the product by the scale label beginning with the PLU 029536.
