Little change in strength for Tropical Storm Ida in Atlantic
The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Ida remains poorly organized as it meanders over the central tropical Atlantic. According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, there would be little or no significant changes in the storm’s movements over the next 48 hours.
Maximum sustained winds remain near 75 km/h with higher gusts.
Tropical Storm Ida’s forecast path, as of Tuesday morning (Sept. 22). “This pattern is the effect of 30 knots of west-northwesterly [wind] shear”. A slow eastward motion is expected later today, followed by a turn toward the north on Thursday.
No watches or warnings have been issued for the storm.
Late last month, Tropical Storm Erika, with winds of 45 miles per hour, tore into Dominica, killing at least 31 people and leaving more than EC$600 million in damages. Ida is expected to move to the east and then curve north later on September 24.
The estimated minimum central pressure is 1,005 mb (29.68 inches).
