Little girl burned in fire receives over 350K letters, packages for Christmas
So her aunt and legal guardian, Liz Dolder, put out a request on Facebook a few days ago. “She wanted to live”. Christine Delgallo, a family friend, also started a fund-raising campaign to help pay for Safyre’s ongoing medical treatment and care. She didn’t expect much of a response.
So far, the post office estimates Sa’fyre has received more than 400,000 cards and 10,000 packages.
“We got the most mail we’ve ever gotten for a single person in Schenectady”, he told ABC.
REILLY: The outpouring of love from all over the country and now all over the world is just – it’s just overwhelming.
On Monday, WNYT reports that Safyre was treated with one more well-deserved holiday surprise, courtesy of a local charity and a big-hearted little boy.
You can still send little Safyre Christmas cards to make her holiday season a little bit brighter. “She can’t believe it. She’s such a humble little girl, too”. In just one day, 195,000 letters and cards arrived for their miracle girl.
Family friend Bill Ryan has been helping to open the letters. If you’ve already shed a tear or two (those dang onions, right?) prepare to shed a few more.
In May 2013, someone set fire to the upstairs stairwell that led to Safyre Terry’s apartment, killing her father, David Terry, and her three siblings, who were all under the age of three.
The trip has been in the making for months (since around March to be exact) and had nothing to do with Safyre’s story going viral.
