Little League World Series postponed due to rain
The team will play the Bowling Green Eastern Little League representing the Great Lakes Region on Thursday.
“We have been advised that weather conditions will get progressively worse throughout the day”, said Patrick Wilson, Little League worldwide Tournament Director.
When Leach first coached at Northwood, if a kid wanted to continue playing after the season he might join an AAU or Babe Ruth team. After Riverside, Farotto became a left-handed specialist in the South Carolina bullpen and in 2009 was drafted in the 34round by the Chicago White Sox. They have worked hard, spent countless hours in practice and devoted much of their free time to living and breathing baseball.
They are the first team from the state of South Carolina to qualify for the event since 1950 with their regional win last Thursday.
The bus left Tuesday morning, August 18, for Williamsport, Pa., carrying the 2014 Great Lakes Champs, for a trip that is filled with mixed emotions for the New Albany baseball players who are going to the Little League World Series, never having had the chance to play in it.
Little League officials called off all four scheduled games shortly before noon Thursday with unrelenting rain expected through Friday’s early hours.
While they won’t be able to play, of course, the team’s agenda will be full.
“For him to lose his job over a commitment to kids and community, I don’t understand it”, said Allan Botterman, a Sweetwater Little League board member.
Parade grand marshal Jim Leyland, former Major League Baseball manager for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Florida Marlins, passed on some wisdom to the players before the parade started. “Now we’ll be even more ready”.
“It’s a once in a lifetime thing”, one of the parents, Cathy Clark, told Greenville News writer Steve Bruss. “It’s something they can tell their grandkids about”.
