‘Little’ Leicester are not normal, says Ranieri
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino believes his side’s 1-0 loss to Leicester City proves that Claudio Ranieri’s men deserve to finish in the top four.
“I feel they need to transform that frustration into more motivation for the next game, because there are more positives than negatives tonight”, he said.
If everybody played the rest of the season at the same level they have so far, Leicester could finish third with 66 points, a total that would demand only 1.35 points per game from them over the remainder of the season – a 51-point pace.
However, it may also have made clubs think; should they be turning to non-league more for more players like Vardy?
Robert Huth’s late header secured victory for Leicester at White Hart Lane, ending a run of three games without a goal or a win.
Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri couldn’t be happier with the show his side put on.
“Everybody thinks, “Sooner or later they will slow down”. Against Newcastle we were pathetic in the second half but in Wednesday’s game there was nothing wrong with the team spirit, it was two teams going toe to toe for the whole game.
“We played well, we deserved more, but in football you need sometimes to have some luck”.
“It wiill depend on the match and if I see he’s a little exhausted”.
The question often asked of Oliver Giroud is ‘is he good enough to win Arsenal the league?’ Well, if he carries on in this vein, the Gunners have got a better chance than most of celebrating come May. “We must continue to work hard, to keep our feet on the ground”.
Sure, Tottenham don’t routinely get beaten on set-pieces of any kind whether that’s a free-kick or a corner.
This could be the year that a team repeats the incredible feat that Blackburn Rovers managed in 1994-1995, to win the premier league against all odds and with star striker Alan Shearer.
“They say Arsenal, Tottenham, United, City, Chelsea, who are used to fighting for the title, say ‘Leicester are there, but can they arrive at the end and fight?'” They have an easy slate of home games remaining against Norwich, West Bromwich Albion, Newcastle, Southampton and Swansea, and away games at cupcakes Sunderland and Aston Villa.
“I try to motivate my players but it’s important they have the right mentality”, the Italian added. We had lots of corners too, we had to do more with them.
