Liverpool agree deal for Schalke star
If Liverpool are to sign the player, he’d add to the defensive ranks.
Jurgen Klopp was also forced to recruit a central defender due to an unusual amount of injuries.
Liverpool have made a “lucrative offer” for Schalke defender Joel Matip, according to reports.
The 24 year old defender already has a great 80 overall rating on Federation Internationale de Football Association 16, but this could even increase past that if the continues to have a good season in the Bundesliga with Schalke.
The Reds have been heavily linked with the Cameroon global for much of the last couple of months, with speculation having suggested that the club were keen on a January deal before sealing a loan move for QPR centre-back Steven Caulker. This put an end to a deal happening in this window, but Matip will become a Liverpool player in the summer when his current contract with Schalke expires. The Cameroon international’s strengths are tackling, interceptions and being comfortable in possession, while he is also a lethal threat to opponents from set-pieces. In the case of Matip, though, that meant that the club could go ahead with signing the 24-year-old to a pre-contract.
He has 27 caps to his name for his country and will look forward to the new challenge of playing in front of the Kop and plying his trade in the Premier League.
Matip has reportedly agreed to join Liverpool next season.
