Ings, 22, has played in all three of Liverpool’s pre-season games so far this summer and had chances to get on the scoresheet in the opening two victories over Thai All-Stars and Brisbane Roar.

“It’s good for all the young players to get out there, especially for me”.

“Jordon is a very exciting talent and we’ll manage him individually because there’s nothing the same for everyone; he’s his own player and we need to manage him with what’s best for him”.

But Rodgers has no intention of playing the 19 year old as a striker like he did with Sterling in his final season at Anfield.

“The goal is trademark run that I’ve built my career on so far, when I see a player drive at the defence I dart across – I think that’s the most deadly position for me to be in”, he added.

“He’s happy to be in the duel and he likes to set up the one-vs-one against a defender”.

The recruit slid onto the end of a curling Jordan Ibe cross to poke in with his right foot, though replays suggested he may have been off-side.

“His tactical idea of how to press in the game is very good”, he continued.
