Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp laments players’ poor decision-making at Burnley
Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the season, as they lost 2-0 to newly promoted Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.
Sam Vokes, without a Premier League goal in 27 appearances over the past seven years, and Andre Gray, playing only his second game at this level, were each on the mark as Burnley recorded their first league victory – 2-0 – over Liverpool in 42 years on Saturday.
“We’re expecting to be very busy so we’ve doubled our order this week”. I understand that Arsenal was not a flawless game – we scored four so obviously we can score goals, but we conceded three so obviously we have a defensive problem.
The fixture will bring back good memories for full-back Stephen Ward, who scored his first Premier League goal against Liverpool at Anfield for Wolves in December 2010. It was not good.
But the £25 million summer signing explained that they struggled because they “play differently” to Arsenal, whom they had beaten in their opening game the previous weekend, declaring that Burnley play “with lots of long balls” and by constantly “trying to win the second ball”. If being angry makes sense, I can be angry with you in a moment, especially when they are rubbish questions.
‘The decision making was poor – we lost the ball in the wrong moments. “I like cup games, and we will be competitive”.
“If one game would change my mind, then I would be a real idiot”. At what point do we start to question his late changes and inability to help us beat the weaker teams in the league?
It’s stuff like that that makes you really love the guy. “It might have been forced by the result and by the passion of the opponent, but it is how it is”. “Especially the two strikers of Burnley, Vokes and Gray, did really well, physically strong guys”.
“We spoke to the players about the realities of this division”. Klopp said. “When we gave away the first goal they defended for their lives”. They could not defend against us like they wanted. I don’t know where [Burnley’s] 13% of possession came from.
“We do this all time when somebody was not too good that we talk about it in a press conference?”
Overall, it was a disappointing performance from the 25-year-old and hopefully he will put in a decent performance in the upcoming games for Liverpool or he could be replaced by any other player for sure.
