Liverpool confirm the signing of Georginio Wijnaldum
It’s hard to blame Newcastle for trying to milk all the money they can out of whatever club ends up signing Wijnaldum, especially considering the amount of Premier League TV money that’s been floating around.
In turn, he has been linked with an exit from St James’ Park, with The Mirror revealing details on his move to Liverpool.
Liverpool’s first Premier League game is a big one: Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on August 14.
However, if Klopp feels he could either move someone, like Lallana, and maybe switch to a 4-3-2-1 formation, Wijnaldum could fit into the clubs plans.
Dirk Kuyt is confident Georginio Wijnaldum will make an instant impact at Liverpool if he were to join from Newcastle United.
The Holland worldwide scored 11 league goals last season after arriving at Newcastle in a £14.5m deal from PSV Eindhoven.
And he has tipped Klopp’s side for success – with Wijnaldum at the heart of it.
“It’s always a dream to play for as big a club as Liverpool”, the 25-year-old told http://www.liverpoolfc.com.
Liverpool are paying a fee of £25m for a player who cost Newcastle around £15m to sign from PSV Eindhoven last summer.
It might explain why Klopp targeted Wijnaldum having failed to strike a deal for another versatile attacking midfielder, Udinese ‘s Polish global Piotr Zielinski. He has arrived at a top club in England now and that’s where he belongs.
He could be a Liverpool player in time to play their pre-season friendly with Chelsea.
Benitez also stated that Wijnaldum “can play everywhere and do well”, including “on the right, on the left, and deeper”.
Georginio Wijnaldum, or “Gini”, as we’re likely to refer to him from now on, is expected to finalise his transfer to Liverpool in a matter of hours rather than days – if Sky Sports reports are to be believed.
Liverpool recently signed defender Ragnar Klavan from German club Augsburg in a long-term contract.
Klopp added: “I think he can be a great player for us”.
