Liverpool FC striker Sturridge must learn difference between ‘serious pain and
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says Daniel Sturridge must learn “what is serious pain and what is only pain” in order to overcome his injury problems.
The 26-year-old has become a familiar name on the injury list over the past year due to a series of injury problems which have severely curtailed his first-team involvement.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp insisted the issue is not serious and dismissed fears over Sturridge’s long-term fitness, saying his body had to “learn what is serious pain and what is only pain”.
“At the moment you think about what can you do, but I waited too long and that can happen”, he said. “But we all know the road is never ideal, so we have to try out best, and see”.
“I think they like a manager that when they listen to him doing his interviews, a bit of humour, a bit of humility, and he’s got those things”.
Just as the game was chugging along nicely for Liverpool, who dominated the opening stages, goalkeeper Simon Mignolet held onto the ball in the area for around 20 seconds, forcing the referee to award an indirect free kick to Bordeaux in the Liverpool area. “If he’s fit, then we can use him”.
Roberto Firmino, the Reds’ £29 million summer signing from Hoffenheim, got his first goal for the club at City and Klopp told reporters after the game the Brazilian has been very impressive lately. We had some new things to talk about so we had to make some assessment and that’s what we did.
Carragher wrote in his column for the Daily Mail: “When Daniel Sturridge is fit and firing, Sergio Aguero is the only striker who is better than him in the Premier League”.
Top spot will be up for grabs when Liverpool visit Switzerland to take on Sion on matchday six, but Klopp said it mattered little.
Joe Allen is likely to start in midfield against his former club as Lucas Leiva serves a one-match suspension for collecting five bookings. I don’t know if Christian can play two games in three days. We need all of them for this big number of games. “We have to decide”.
