Liverpool to confirm £5m transfer deal for PL defender this week
Skrtel will complete his transfer to the Turkish giants Fenerbahce later this week according to Liverpool Echo.
Martin Skrtel’s reported £5.5million move from Liverpool to Fenerbahce is close to being concluded – but it’s unlikely he’ll become team-mates with one of his long-term adversaries.
FourFourTwo have reported that the Slovakian global is set to move to the Turkish side this summer, with Fenerbahce tabling an offer worth £5.5m.
And it appears the deal is now almost complete, with Paris St-Germain right back Gregory van der Wiel apparently set to follow Skrtel to the Turkish capital.
We’ve spent most of this summer suggesting that while Martin Skrtel should leave Liverpool, he should be congratulated for his eight years of loyal service – and not vilified for his performances last season.
The Istanbul club’s president Aziz Yildirim told AMK Spor: “The (Gregory) van der Wiel and Skrtel transfers are nearly done”.
The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker finished the Super Lig campaign with 16 goals in 31 appearances, but was unhappy at the club. The club expect to sell Robin van Persie to recoup funds.
The 31 year old defender has been atrocious for Liverpool over the last few seasons and the likes of Lovren and Gomez are all ahead of him in the pecking order.
