Liverpool transfer talk frustrates Klopp
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says he “can’t believe” the “obsession” over the transfer window and is waiting for the day it closes.
Jurgen Klopp has called for Divock Origi to “sort his skills” after Liverpool fired blanks in a 2-0 defeat at promoted Burnley on Saturday.
“I understand after Arsenal it was far away from being a ideal game”.
But Daniel Sturridge and Origi, who replaced the England global in the 65th minute at Turf Moor, were unable to break down Sean Dyche’s stubborn Championship winners.
Speaking at Melwood on Monday afternoon to preview his side’s EFL Cup second-round tie with Burton Albion, Klopp says reporters place far more importance on signings rather than time spent training and, once again, reiterated that he is happy with the players now at his disposal.
“I’ve said always, up until August 31 everything is possible because these things can happen, but in this moment it’s not that we have a main thing to, or a preferred position to make signings”. But on the other side, he has no rhythm in the moment, which you can see.
“Then we played at Burnley, we had 81 percent possession and didn’t score a goal, so now you can say we need another striker if you want”.
“He is still on the way back but he is still an outstanding player and even an outstanding player needs rhythm”.
Liverpool are unlikely to make wholesale changes but striker Divock Origi could start for the first time this season. Another important game. We have to show we can do better.
“Of course we will make changes but not too much, it’s not really likely that we will change seven or eight positions”. We have a few players now in good shape, and they have had two weeks more to train, and now they are fit and healthy, and we have to give them a chance.
When asked if he’d consider selecting the pair to operate in tandem, the 49-year-old said: “They played in Southampton together [the 6-1 League Cup win at St Mary’s] and it was not too bad”.
“Sometimes it is a little bit harder, sometimes easier, but that is for all of us the same”.
