Liverpool transfers: Reds’ offer for Schalke star confirmed
Germany’s biggest sports publication SportBild has claimed, and we’re entitled to believe them due to their close ties with Bundesliga clubs, that Liverpool are watching teenage starlet Leroy Sane closely.
Indeed, German newspapers Bild are reporting that the Reds are extremely keen on signing Sane from Schalke and that they also had a bid turned down during the recent summer transfer window.
Aged just 19, Sane has developed into a fan favourite at Schalke thanks to his pacy runs and trickery, and even scored on his Champions League debut at the Bernabeu last season. The report claims that Tottenham were not put off by Schalke’s stance of having no intention to sell Sane, and are ready to make another approach for him.
Heldt added: “These offers didn’t at all interest us or the player”. I am really not concerned about losing the player.
Sane, who can play as a striker or winger, was already being courted by Europe’s top teams as a 17-year-old when Ajax made a €5 million offer for him.
The 19-year-old has featured regularly for Schalke this season, clocking up nine appearances in all competitions so far, scoring three goals and providing a single assist.
