Liverpool Want Steven Caulker On Loan
Caulker is now on loan at Southampton until the end of the season, but this would be cancelled if a deal can be arranged to bring him to Anfield for the next six months.
Steven Caulker has played against Liverpool this season, in Southampton’s 6-1 Capital One Cup defeat by Jurgen Klopp’s side in December. What’s more, the club sorted his Premier League clearance which meant he was available to make a debut last night against Arsenal!
England global Caulker insists he is aware of the challenge facing him at Anfield, and is looking forward to helping the team “in any way possible”.
Jürgen Klopp has told Liverpool’s players they will be judged on a season-by-season basis but admitted he is also under pressure to develop a winning style this season.
Liverpool on the other hand, are in dire need of a defender, as three of their four centrebacks are now injured, with Kolo Toure being the only one who is fit to play.
Paddy Power are offering odds of 10/1 that the former Tottenham defender will do his hammy when Liverpool host Arsenal on Wednesday evening.
It was no secret that Liverpool were on the hunt for a centre-back due to the injury crisis that has shorn them of Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren and others.
With the manager insisting his acquisition was a “very important” one, Caulker is likely to walk straight into the first-team against the Gunners, the current league leaders in the top-flight. Liverpool is eighth in the Premier League.
But the 48-year-old said his focus remained on development, not results, in his first season in charge.
Steven Caulker, on loan at Southampton, has been at clubs relegated from the Premier League for the past two years.
Liverpool will play at least 11 games between now and the end of February, amid all these uncertainties.
