Liverpool want to sign Victor Valdes from Manchester United
Liverpool could launch a shock bid to bring Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes to Anfield, according to reports.
The veteran Spaniard has featured just twice for United’s first team since arriving as a free agent in January, and was criticised publicly by manager Louis van Gaal for refusing to play for the Under-21s. In part, he puts that down to selling 20 or 25 players, and with the transfers in he has made, that has helped him rotate more in the season.
The Daily Mail has a story from Morgan Schneiderlin, saying that Van Gaal is a very strict coach.
Liverpool were apparently interested in Valdes after the expiry of his Barcelona contract a year ago, but a revival in form for Mignolet meant a new goalkeeper was never sought.
But they could face competition from Liverpool as ESPN claim that Brendan Rodgers is also eyeing the former Barca star as he continues to have doubts over Simon Mignolet as his long-term number 1. Valdes, who joined the English giants back in October after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament tear and being sidelined for 7 months has fallen out of favor to the likes of David De Gea and Sergio Romero for the starting spot.
The Blues are without Thibaut Courtois through injury and are now relying on the inexperienced Jamal Blackman as back-up to Asmir Begovic.
