Local battalion chief sent to Rough Fire

Botti says she is far from the active flames burning in the Kings Canyon National Park, but smoke has blown north. Crews are doing everything they can to protect Hume Lake and the surrounding areas from the Rough Fire. With slight changes in weather patterns, we will see heavy concentrations of smoke in the western foothills and areas within the Kings River Canyon until midafternoon.
Fire officials in Washington state say a complex of wildfires burning in north-central Washington is about 10 percent contained.
The Santa Lucia Wilderness area was closed Thursday night until October . 1 because of the firefight, and firefighters were expected to keep working to surround the blaze for at least another week. More than 200 homes have been destroyed and more than 12,000 homes and thousands of other structures remain threatened. The suppression strategy for the Rough Fire will utilize a combination of direct, indirect and point protection.
Eighteen wildfires are now raging in California, and 10 states around the country are reporting large fires.

The camp was filled with more smoke Saturday afternoon than it was on Wednesday.
There’s also a pride in helping people in a time of natural disaster and they said they’re ready to get there and work as long as it takes. Highway 180 was blocked off at the Highway 198 fork.
Fresno County Sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said authorities will hold a community meeting on the Rough fire at 3 p.m. Sunday at the PG&E Recreation Center at 70185 Courtright Road.
