Local businesses excited for Small Business Saturday
But this year’s sixth annual Small Business Saturday will be missing one key factor: incentives for American Express credit card holders, the Chicago Tribune reported Friday.
Smith isn’t the only one starting Small Business Saturday a day early in Aiken.
“Well, I think that local businesses capture the spirit of any town and it’s really important to support them before you step in to any chain or any big box”, said Mary Alice Daniel, shopper.
According to the small business association more than $14 billion were spent during small business Saturday previous year.
“You’ll find unique things, things that I’ve picked out personally.
The material and quality of the clothes are very good”, said Doug Balvenz, a small business shopper.
“I think the more you shop local, the more the money goes back into your community”.
Razorz Edge, another local shop on 4th Avenue has been open for nine years.
Locally owned shops joined together to promote each other’s stores, especially at the South Bend Farmer’s Market. “We’ve got some really nice ones here in Ashland and we do not want to see any of them go away”, said shoppers Margie and David Koogler. “It’s not the stuff you’re going to find at the mall, not the stuff you’re going to find in Chicago just down the Michigan Mile, it’s the stuff you find here that people are just going to love”.
Local and state leaders are also participating to show their support.
She says shopping locally has more community benefits than most people realize.
And for the last 5 years, they’ve been a part of Small Business Saturday, a nationwide focus on shopping local.
