Local businesses prepare for Small Business Saturday
Shop Small is a movement encouraging people to shop at local businesses.
Small Business Saturday: Who is taking part?
Small Business Saturday was launched by American Express in 2010.
“80% of consumers are saying they’re willing to pay slightly more that they know they’ll pay at a small independently owned retailer because they’ll get the opportunity to buy something a little unique”. “It went really well”. According to the American Independent Business Alliance, money spent at local small businesses generates 3.7 times more direct local economic benefit than spending at chain stores.
So avoid those crowded malls, and head out to shop in a place you can really call home – your local downtowns!
That’s why Saturday November 28 is a very special and important day for local businesses. “That’s good we want them to do well, but there’s room in people’s budgets to support small companies”. “Having that exciting atmosphere to go shop in – and to remember that the small businesses need your support just as much as anybody else”.
By shopping local, you show current and potential businesses that we are a community that takes care of each other. “As the voice of small businesses, we want to do all we can to help promote our many small businesses”.
If long lines are fighting for a parking spot stresses you out, small businesses may be the answer to keep that in-store experience. By shopping local, buyers are not only putting money back into the community economy, but helping each business owner strive to do more as well.
“If you leave your dollars here in Jackson the merchants and the stores can give back to the city which makes the city strive”, Johnston said.
