Local Democrats have eight caucus sites
Del. Tim Hugo, chairman of Rubio’s Virginia campaign, said the time Rubio is spending in Virginia shows that he has high expectations for Tuesday. You’ve probably heard the term “Super Tuesday” on the news and throughout the debates on television, however, do you really know what “Super Tuesday” is all about?
“Super Tuesday” – the nickname for the series of presidential primaries taking place across the United States – is coming this year on March 1, and in the realm of American presidential politics, it’s a big deal.
In all, 595 Republican delegates- about 25 percent of the total number – are available on Super Tuesday.
According to a new poll, almost one in three Trump supporters in SC supports banning gay people from entering the United States. Not so. In fact, voters directly will choose only 47 of those 155 delegates and a candidate would have to win at least 50 percent of the popular vote to get all those delegates. Low-scoring candidates got a boost if their votes originated from a handful of districts, which allowed them to scoop up local bonuses; the effect was the opposite for statewide favorites, who lost out when their votes were unevenly distributed. On the Democratic ticket, the decision will be between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton.
In two of the Super Tuesday states, the Latino community makes up more than 20 percent of the population: 38 percent in Texas and 21 percent in Colorado.
This day lands on a different date each year. This is why there is a big “Super Tuesday” on March 1 but also a kind of mini-Super Tuesday on March 15. Of the 1,034 delegates coming from the Super Tuesday race states, 878 are traditional delegates picked by voters that day and 156 Super Delegates are excluded from voter selection. February 1 was the last day to update your voter registration address to participate in the March 1 party precinct caucus. States holding primary elections on Super Tuesday are Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, and Virginia with Alaska, Colorado, Minnesota, and Wyoming holding caucuses. Trump also reportedly spent millions to buy ad spots that will air in a few of the Super Tuesday states on Super Tuesday, spending a majority of that to buy advertising in Cruz’s home state of Texas. Iowa, which votes first in the presidential race, has been criticised for not being representative of the American electorate. However, it does not always happen that way.
For Democrats, this could be a turning point for Hillary Clinton’s campaign-or a sign that the race won’t be over anytime soon. But because of the way pledged delegates are counted and because Obama’s team led an effort early on to lock down superdelegates, the math ultimately favored Obama, and Clinton dropped out.
What is the SEC Primary?
Tennessee’s primary is next Tuesday.
It may not seem like it, given all the noise and drama, but the fight for the presidential nominations in both parties has just begun. Virginia holds “open primaries” – this means you do not have to be registered with any party to vote in their primary.
The Democrats have 10 delegates available and will call a caucus vote.
“Straw poll, which is a non-binding poll and then after that there’s a persuasion time where people can try to and get people to change their minds and then we have a preference poll which is binding”, said Annie Schmitt, the Executive Director of the El Paso County Democratic Party.
