Local fans line up to see ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ film
Online ticket seller Fandango said on Thursday that the new movie, which has received glowing reviews, has already broken its record for the most tickets sold for any film’s entire theatrical run.
Cinemas were packed nationwide to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens Thursday night, as Marquee Cinemas in Charleston featured two back-to-back showings.
Some fans dressed up as storm troopers, Chewbacca, Darth Vader and more. Or usurps “Jurassic World” for the crown of the biggest opening weekend on record ($208.8 million).

Star Wars’ New Zealand distributor, Sony Pictures, revealed the figures on Friday, saying they had smashed the previous record, set by The Avengers, which opened on April 25 2012, and collected $1.020m on its first day in cinemas. It puts us in a position for a repeat of the charming ad that Steven Spielberg took out in Variety when the first Star Wars surpassed Jaws to become the biggest film of all time.
“If JJ Abrams messes this up, I don’t know, I’ll never watch Star Wars again”.
