Local Leap Day Baby Born

The chances of having a baby on Leap Day are 1 in 1,461. Some Melbourne hospital staff believe this to be true.

Well the reason leap years even exist are because each year is actually a little bit longer than 365 days, so Americans make up for it with the occasional extra day.

He says the unique February 29th birthday, which only occurs once every four years, has prompted some laughs. There are now other women in the hospital trying to hold out until the next day. “That’s weird. Leap year, that’s like, crazy”.

As of Monday afternoon, Kapiolani Medical Center saw about six births, Queen’s had about four leap day babies, and three babies were born at Wilcox Memorial hospital on Kauai. “Women are very sensible, if they understand it is medically necessary they will nearly always agree, but when there there is a choice many prefer not to”.

That means they’ll celebrate their first birthday in four years.
