Locals shop for Small Business Saturday
“It’s a nice way to build a community and meet the shop owners”.
The shopping frenzy continues with Small Business Saturday, a shopping holiday started by American Express in 2010. “You come into a small shop you’re greeted immediately by the owner or person running the shop”.
“We have items you’re not going to find at big chains”.
As some small businesses are struggling across the nation today is a day some local store owners say is a chance for them to shine.
“We come and spend time with family”.
While Mrs. Pinkadot and Bridget’s did have special hours, sales, and arrivals this weekend, they say shoppers can expect more of that through the holiday season. Their style, their taste, it’s kind of fun. “Then you’re not going to have any place to go”, said Kraus.
The National Federation of Independent Businesses has put together an interactive map of some of the store taking part in Small Business Saturday.
“It’s been really busy”. “So in an attempt to make up for that lost revenue I’ll be open on Friday”.

Shari Simmans-Bolouri, VP, Marketing and Events with the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, says more than 50 businesses in Old Town are involved with this year’s “Small Business Saturday”.
According to American Express, Small Business Saturday racked in more than $14.3 million dollars nationwide.
Our Country Hearts began as a small gift shop.it was able to expand because of the community support.
Armstrong says supporting small businesses is not only great for the economy, but also great for an experience like no other.
