‘Logan’: Another R-rated superhero hit for Fox

The superhero film starring Hugh Jackman and Sir Patrick Stewart has earned $85 million (£69.1 million) to beat out The Lego Batman Movie for best opening weekend of 2017.

Logan has contented himself to mutant-kind’s mysterious downfall – “Maybe we were God’s mistake”, he gruffs – until he’s tasked with protecting and transporting a young girl with conspicuously similar abilities (newcomer Dafne Keen) from the evil henchmen who are hunting her.

I am not surprised Logan got out of the gate in such a hurry – Wolverine is the most popular X-Men character, and carries his own fanbase.

Odds are the footage will be a tease for another related movie, such as “Deadpool 2”, “New Mutants” or the next X-Men movie being called “X-Men: Supernova”.

This weekend, Wolverine fans the world over are heading to theaters to bid farewell to Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. An emotional Patrick Stewart also confirmed that he would be hanging up the Professor X… wheelchair (?) after Logan as well.
