Logan Opens Huge; Top 10 Movies At The US Box Office Revealed
(The Picket)- When one thinks of Wolverine from the X-Men it is impossible to avoid the image of a fit Hugh Jackman in an intense fight scene baring his claws or his yellow spandex covered comic book counterpart.
The mantle of Professor X will now be carried on by James McAvoy, who made his debut in the role in 2011’s X-Men: First Class.
More importantly, that estimated opening surpasses the $85.1 million opening of 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, although it still falls short of X2’s $85.5 million opening in 2009. “I wish I had the little bit of Logan’s healing powers”.
New feature The Shack, starring Octavia Spencer and Sam Worthington, is a surprise hit, too – the faith-based film was panned by critics, but moviegoers gave it $16.1 million across 2,888 theaters. It was directed by James Mangold, who also co-penned the script together with writers Scott Frank and Michael Green from a story written by Mangold, who took inspiration from the graphic novel Old Man Logan. With its overwhelmingly positive reviews and financial success, the movie is being labelled as the best Wolverine movie to date, but its triumphs are bittersweet as the instalment is set to be Hugh Jackman’s last as the well-loved Marvel Comics character.
John was impressed enough by seeing the tape of Dafne Keen that she arranged to have the young girl “sent to the States to screen test with Jackman”. In some interesting turn of events, the movie effectively kills off the character, as well as Patrick Stewart’s Professor X (for the second time). But Jackman hasn’t had as much luck with his solo outings.
In honor of playing the character for the past 17 years, Jackman has been sharing videos and behind-the-scenes images with fans. There is resistance at first, baby-sitting isn’t Logan’s thing after all, and has always been a loner but as the movie goes on they come to an understanding.
After a huge Thursday night of previews, Fox’s R-rated superhero movie Logan made $33 million at the U.S. box office on Friday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. (For the record, Charles was right: Laura and her nurse are waiting for her at the Statue of Liberty Hotel).
