Logan Slashed Its Way Into Record-Breaking Box Office Territory
Is a Logan sequel possible?
Prior to the start of the movie, my husband Mike gave me the Cliff Notes version of the previous films involving Wolverine.
Patrick Stewart, who has portrayed Charles Xavier/Professor X in X-Men films since the original 2000’s film, says “Logan” will be his last time as the leader of the mutants. Neither of the previous two movies did well with critics, and moviegoers weren’t insane about them either.
And lastly, some fans were slightly miffed that there was no post-credit sequence, as is the custom in most superhero films. Logan doesn’t need a director’s cut because the theatrical cut is exactly what the director envisioned for his movie.
Co-star Patrick Stewart spoke out about the unique tone of this new story.
Logan opened with a commanding $85 million, matching the $85 million start for 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine but well ahead of The Wolverine’s $53 million start in 2013. The film is the tenth installment in the X-Men series.
The relationship between Logan and Laura twists and turns, giving Jackman a chance to show the emotional depths he can play.
If his public statements are any indication, Hugh Jackman is apparently hanging up his adamantium-blade claws. Comic book fans know Jackman is much taller than the comic book Wolverine, who was always the smallest, toughest guy in the room, but Hugh has managed to put his mark on the role to an extent that audiences no longer care about the height difference. Jackman has played the role over the course of nine films that have popped up over almost two decades.
While a full return to his X-Men character is still unlikely, a cameo in Deadpool could be a true possibility. The episode focused on Kitty Pryde – the phasing mutant played by Ellen Page onscreen – and the challenges she faces as the team’s newest and youngest member. Keen does a terrific job of bringing this comic book character to life. While Logan earns a living by driving a limousine, getting drunk and getting into fights, Xavier’s disintegrating mind compels him to stay sedated in order to keep his colossal psychic powers under control.
The Weapon X DNA is the same DNA used to create X-23 in “Logan”. Admittedly, the latter is in its second week, but the point remains: the claws came out, and they were sharp. His heart is in the right place and he act’s honorably but he’s never really been openly idealistic type and has most certainly never been mistaken as morally unambiguous.
