Logano races into 3rd round of playoffs with Charlotte win
Unfortunately, the Chase will not feature any of these adjustments, and even more unfortunately, it’ll lead to more less-than-spectacular races like today’s in Charlotte.
In 13 previous starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Joey Logano led only 20 of 4,627 laps, had no wins and had a best finish of third.
Joey Logano won the Bank of America 500 for the first time in his career on Sunday.
Kasey Kahne hit the wall on lap 58 and went behind the wall. He came into the pits for right side tires and repairs to the right front quarter panel. He only beat Kevin by 0.704 seconds, according to ESPN. He is already out of the Chase and will compete to win but he could be important for his teammates, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr., if they are in a good position late in the race.
” I feel really bad to ruin their day and hopefully it didn’t hurt their chances of transferring through this round.”, he said. As Kenseth struggled, Logano became the class of the field.
Sunday was a ideal October day in terms of the weather, but not so much in terms of the race.
The 227 laps Logano led were the most laps led by a fall Charlotte victor since Ernie Irvan in 1993. Kenseth, a Chase favorite, was out of the race. He had repeated encounters with the outside wall Sunday at Charlotte, finishing 28th at a track where he remains winless in points races. He worked his way back into the top-10 before getting caught up in an on-track incident with Ryan Newman with just over 155 laps to go. The caution was shown again for Lap 194 for the eighth time to check for debris. Kyle Busch, after a wreck with Kyle Larson entering pit road, was 20. Only problem: Kyle Larson, running second, decided at that moment he wanted to duck onto pit road. He received heavy left side damage that he would not be able to rebound from. Both drivers had commitment cone violations with Busch also receiving a penalty for exceeding the pit road speed limit.
But Harvick couldn’t catch Logano in the final laps.
Kevin Harvick finished second.
“And they didn’t clean-up the oil and we hit the wall again”, he added.
“It’s been three years since we’ve come down”, said Allen Bradshaw.
Logano, 25, won for the fourth time this season. As a result, he went two laps down.
Justin Allgaier’s engine dropped fluid after he busted his radiator on a restart. Kenseth remained in the garage and was shown in 40th place.
Logano’s domination might be a question of chicken or egg. “It was a true team effort and a testament to this team and their fight”.
Three other drivers in the Chase finished in the top ten. Each gets behind the wheel for a simultaneous four-car ride around “The Beast of the Southeast”.
Gordon, in his final fulltime season competing in the Cup series, remains without a victory this year but is still in the hunt for an elusive fifth series championship. Carl Edwards in fourth and sixth, chasing Furniture Row’s lonely third-place finisher Martin Truex Jr and split by Kurt Busch’s Stewart-Haas auto.
The Chase for the Cup heads to Kansas Speedway Sunday for the Hollywood Casino 400.
