London Police Arrest 3 ‘Suspicious’ Men at Million Mask March
Three men carrying knives, smoke and paint grenades, gas canisters and lock picks were arrested on Thursday before hundreds of anti-capitalist protesters took to the streets of central London for the now annual Million Mask march.
The worldwide event, held annually on 5 November, is organised by the anarchic hacking collective Anonymous.
Anyone breaching these rules risks arrest.
Indeed, Time Warner does profit from the sale of its officially licensed V for Vendetta merchandise, but the widely popular mask of Guy Fawkes-also known Guido Fawkes of the infamous 1605 Gunpowder Plot-can be purchased alternatively through tens of thousands of online sellers, none of whom pay Hollywood a dime.
The Met Police said they were imposing conditions under the Public Order Act.
Police have ramped up numbers in a bid to curb violence and anti-social behaviour, but Scotland Yard told The Huffington Post United Kingdom that three males had already been arrested on suspicion of possessing of an offensive weapon.
A Facebook page for the event, run by Million Mask March London, said: “The police are not your friends, this goes for police liaison officers too, they’re simply a ‘friendly face” who collect intelligence’.
One musician, who gave her name as Lola, said she had travelled from Hull to the capital to speak up for others.
Past year protesters caused “criminal damage to monuments and buildings, attempts to take over buildings, harassment of motorists and attacks on police officers”.
It was backed by outspoken comedian Russell Brand a year ago, but he has not yet indicated if he will be joining tonight’s protesters.
The event took place on Mendiola Street in the center of Manila. If you want to break the law then we will police you.
A security guard at the courthouse Thursday implored the Fawkes-disguised protesters to keep the doorway clear as attorneys in suits and ties cut through the crowd of skate-boarding, flag-waving youth.
One protester who emerged from the crowd with blood pouring from his head close to the headquarters of the ruling Conservative party said he had been caught between a surge of demonstrators and police batons.
“We have seen the pushes to make the internet yet another part of the surveillance state, we have seen the government’s disregard for migrants, we have seen the capital, profit and greed of the few put before the wellbeing of the many and we say enough is enough”, the group said.
