Long Island teens found dead in possible gang attack
Police say Lisa Mickens, a day short of her 16th birthday, was killed near the Loretta Park Elementary School in Brentwood, N.Y. The cause of her death is not yet clear. The two were last seen at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cuevas’ house in Brentwood when Nisa’s father dropped his daughter off. She had at least 10 injuries to her head and face.
The widow and children of a man who went to a rural Hawaii health center with a sore throat in 2013 and ended up dead will receive a $4.2 million settlement from the federal government, the widow’s lawyer said Wednesday. “Because when he got home, I was there to pick her up”, said Nisa’s father, Rob Mickens. “Immediately, we started looking”.
Authorities vowed Wednesday to “catch this depraved predator” after two teenage girls, one 16, the other on the eve of her 16th birthday, were found brutally slain a few hundred feet from each other less than 24 hours apart. Cuevas hasn’t been seen since. Here is Cuevas’ photo: Micken’s family told Eyewitness News that Kayla’s cellphone was found next to Nisa’s body in the road.
“There are indications that the crime – that the assault … may be committed by members of a gang”, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy Sini said.
Police believe the murders could be gang-related and are offering a $5,000 reward for anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
Sini said he believed the girls were both killed Tuesday but wouldn’t say whether invesitgators believed the girls were killed in a different location than where their bodies were found. Police are stepping up security and police presence at Brentwood High School, reports CBS New York.
