Longhorn Leap: Texas in AP Top 25 for 1st time under Strong
After arguably the greatest opening weekend in college football saw multiple top 10 teams fall, the updated Amway Coaches Poll looked drastically different and the Texas Longhorns are once again ranked, coming in at No. 20.
Clemson stayed at No. 2 while receiving two first-place votes and Florida State (four first-place votes) moved up one spot to third.
Michigan State is ranked 12th and Louisville is 13th. Houston is No. 6. Arizona also went from unranked to No. 10 in 2014 after the Wildcats won at Oregon.
– Texas A&M in at No20 after beating UCLA, then No16, in overtime.
Miami slipped in at No. 25.
Dropping out of the rankings were UCLA, USC, North Carolina and Florida.
Florida, which was No. 25, fell out after beating MA 24-7.
– No6 Houston and No9 Georgia had the biggest jumps for pre-season ranked teams. Each moved up nine spots after victories over ranked teams.
– No17 Tennessee, No18 Notre Dame and No19 MS all fell eight spots. Tennessee dropped from ninth to 17th after an uninspiring overtime win over Appalachian State.
ESPN’s Brett McMurphy even had the ‘Horns ranked as high as No. 6; a substantial jump from unranked, to say the least.
– No8 Washington has their highest rank since November 2001.
The first weekend of college football is in the books and now we have the first set of reactions from the coaches voting in this year’s Coaches Poll.
