Longmont weather: High of 83 with a chance of afternoon storms
The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a heat advisory for Washington, Nemaha and Marshall Counties in Kansas, in effect from 11 am to 9 PM Wednesday.
Avoid poorly ventilated areas and prolonged work in the sun.
Wear light weight loose fitting clothing. Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances, the weather service said.
Auto interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Check on elderly neighbors. All lobbies have seating, restroom access and air conditioning.
Hot weather can cause illness as well. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
For information on cooling sites, contact the United Way of Greater St. Louis Information Referral line at 1-800-427-4626 or if calling from a land line phone, dial 2-1-1. Heat stroke is an emergency, so in that event, please call 9-1-1.
For the rest of us, that means that temperatures will range only into the 70s across the state, with a high of 78 expected in Greater Boston, forecasters wrote. A person suffering heat exhaustion may have muscle cramps or nausea. A cool shower or cold compresses can help lower the person’s body temperature as well.
At just before 8 a.m., Long Island MacArthur Airport was reporting a temperature of 72 degrees.
Saturday is expected expected to be dry with a high in the lower 90s. A severe thunderstorm watch remained in effect until 7 a.m. Wednesday.
