Look Who’s Playing Donald Trump in the SNL Season Premiere
Here’s a look at those who’ve been fearless enough to don the Trump coif. It’s a big responsibility, so maybe Hammond didn’t want to be a makeshift cast member for the time being. Before that, Taran Killam played Trump.
Why three different Trumps in two years? No, not really-but the best impressions capture the mannerisms and tone of the person more than anything else.
Baldwin has deep ties to SNL, having guest-hosted a record-setting 16 times since his debut in 1990.
Previously, Darrell Hammond, a former cast member and now the announcer of the show, played Trump.
But for whatever reason, Killam’s Trump was not long for this world. He doesn’t appear to have performed as Trump publicly before, although he does have a knack for impersonations. Trump himself even hosted “SNL” twice: in April 2004 and November 2015.
He and Clinton recently appeared in the first of the presidential debates this past Monday, which will surely prove to be a source of inspiration for the episode. The new promo for SNL that NBC released on Wednesday suggests the first head-to-head showdown will be a parody of the nominees’ recent presidential debate.
“Saturday Night Live”, NBC’s Emmy Award-winning late-night comedy showcase, enters its 40th season in September for another year of laughs, surprises and great performances.
We see both Baldwin and McKinnon in costume in the brief clip, but neither of them speak.
