Lopez, Larkin each score 17 as Nets beat Pistons 93-83
The Pistons turned it over 18 times in Thursay’s first half – their average over 82 games last season was 13.4 per game – and nothing better explains why they scored 32 points in the half and finished with a 93-83 loss to Brooklyn than that.
Reggie Jackson made his return to the Pistons lineup, giving Stan Van Gundy his first glimpse in the preseason of what could be his rotation to open the season. But the Nets answered with an 11-0 run, with two 3-pointers by Chris Daniels and one by Wayne Ellington and a pair of free throws by Sloan, to push the lead to 16.
Marcus Morris exited the game midway through the second quarter in foul trouble, allowing Brooklyn to regain its double-digit lead and take a 10-point lead into half.
Brooklyn Nets forward Joe Johnson (7) shoots over Detroit Pistons forward Jonas Jerebko (33) during the second quarter at Barclays Center.
But Detroit was the one who looked over-matched. He shot just 1 of 4 from behind the 3-point line but added seven rebounds and never got himself into foul trouble. Jackson finished with seven points, six assists and six turnovers and Drummond with 14 points and 11 rebounds after going scoreless with four boards in 17 first-half minutes. He failed to get back on two separate plays in the second quarter and appropriately heard it from Van Gundy.
The offensive malaise continued, with Dinwiddie struggling in his stint on the court.
Although Reggie Jackson did bring some flash and dash back to the offense, triggering the pick-and-roll and tossing an alley-oop to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in the first few minutes, the Pistons didn’t have the same stability throughout. He hit his first two 3-point shots and scored his other first-half basket on a powerful post move.
GAME NOTES • Reggie Bullock, Darrun Hilliard and Jordan Bachynski, all healthy and available, did not play for the Pistons. This is definitely the match-up to watch, but chances are both players will only play in the range of 25-30 minutes. The Nets were coming off a 101-96 loss to Turkish pro team Fenerbahce Ulker.
