Los Angeles adds 3 venues to bid for 2024 Olympics
The Bid Committee claim the move, announced today, further highlights its attempt at staging a cost-effective Games as all of the venues are now in place so it “minimises construction risks, operational struggles and costs”.
LA 2024 also announced that two new facilities will be added to the growing list of venues that the games will employ.
LA 2024 will create a transformative Olympic and Paralympic Games utilizing our city’s ideal climate, its unparalleled culture of creativity and innovation, and its youthful energy to reimagine a New Games for a New Era.
The committee also added another Southern California neighbor Thursday with its proposal to host volleyball at The Honda Center in Anaheim. We have the infrastructure, location and tourism industry in place to make the Olympic Games a success. Beyond just locating sports close together, each Sports Park offers a multi-sport and entertainment experience within a secure perimeter where all attendees will be able to walk from one venue to another in a vibrant and lively atmosphere that will include food, music, celebration Live Sites, and the opportunity to see several events. “By relying on Southern California’s wealth of top sports, housing and transportation infrastructure, LA 2024 will minimize construction risk, operational struggles and costs, and can focus on providing athletes with the flawless stage to perform their best, without distraction”.
Carson’s StubHub Center, which has the largest professional soccer-specific stadium in the country, is set to host games, and the adjacent VELO Sports Center would be home to cycling competitions.
Organizers of Los Angeles’s bid for the 2024 Olympics on Thursday added the cities of Anaheim and Long Beach to their plan for the Games while reiterating a pledge to deliver the spectacle on time and within budget.
Previously, UCLA’s Pauley Pavillion was the planned site for volleyball, but now it’ll be hosting wrestling and judo instead.
Should Los Angeles be successful, handball will take place in the Long Beach Arena, a 13,500-seat facility that recently received a $US10 million ($A13 million) upgrade.
Carson, like Long Beach, played host to events during the 1984 Olympics.
“We are proud to join the LA 2024 team and will do everything we can to support Los Angeles and the United States bid”, Garcia said.
As part of its bid for the 2024 Summer Games, LA 2024 has agreed to terms with the U.S. With this week’s announcement that Long Beach has been selected as a venue in Los Angeles’ bid to host the 2024 Summer Games, the Olympics may soon be a part of our future too.
