Los Angeles County and City Firefighters Battle Three-Alarm Fire
The fire looked to have started in a commercial building, L.A. County Firefighter David Dantic told KPCC.
Firefighters worked to extinguish a third-alarm fire on Wednesday that erupted within a commercial building in South Los Angeles.
Fire officials said the fire broke out just after 1 a.m. Wednesday inside one of the businesses and quickly spread to the others, according to the Associated Press.
Upon their arrival, firefighters located heavy smoke and flames showing.
Firefighters said more than 10 buildings were affected by the fire. During the firefight several roofs caved in and a large portion of wall on the main fire building collapsed outwards unto the street. Also, a few of the businesses, which includes a furniture manufacturer, carried highly flammable materials, making the fire stubborn. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
Firefighters saved two homes and a business, but the contents of the business were destroyed, he said. Los Angeles County Firefighters took charge over the scene, overhauling the buildings the rest of the morning.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze.
