Los Angeles Lakers Hit New Low With Loss To Philadelphia 76ers
Former Sixers Julius Erving and Clint Richardson reminisced about their former teammate during a halftime ceremony. The more than 20,500 in attendance saw the 76ers pull off the 103-91 victory, bringing their record to 1-18. It was the first win for the Sixers since March 25.
“I like Bryant because he’s the type of player who always wants to improve upon his performance”, the Ghana coach Avram Grant said during Monday’s press conference.
One more defeat for the 76ers would have earned them the unwanted record of making the poorest start to any season in National Basketball Association history. It was emotional for me, and I’m deeply appreciative … beyond belief.
Scott said some of Bryant’s shots were “ill-advised”.
While at Lower Merion, Bryant wore No. 33 and had his jersey retired. “It was really special moment”.
Kobe Bryant’s first road game since his Sunday retirement announcement always figured to be a momentous occasion, especially considering it would come against the Philadelphia 76ers, ostensibly his hometown team.
By the fourth quarter, the Philly fans had turned their attention toward the home team, chanting “Beat L.A.!” when beleaguered rookie Jahlil Okafor made a layup for a 94-80 lead.
“Nobody’s pitying himself here”, Brown said. The Sixers’ video tribute in many ways comes across as an attempt to alter that history – Kobe is from Philadelphia but not necessarily of it.
NOTES: Lakers C Roy Hibbert, Sixers G JaKarr Sampson and Philadelphia F Jerami Grant were all assessed technical fouls after a shoving match with 6:54 left in the third quarter, which began with Sixers G Isaiah Canaan fouling Hibbert…. All three were hit with technical fouls. It was a memorable night in South Philadelphia as they honored the late great Moses Malone and it was Philadelphia’s own and National Basketball Association great Kobe Bryant’s last game in Philadelphia.
“I’m just trying to give these guys some advice: Steal Kobe’s stuff after every game!”
John Wall led the way with 35 points, 10 assists and four rebounds as the Wizards improved to 7-8, easing pressure on beleaguered coach Randy Wittman.
Lakers: At the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night.
