Los Angeles to Host NHL All-Star Game in 2017
The Kings will host the skills competition January 28, 2017 with the All-Star Game on January 29.
The NHL is expected to announce Los Angeles as host of the 2017 All-Star Game at Staples Center. The NHL made the official announcement Saturday before the 2016 skills competition in Nashville.
“We are thrilled that the Kings and Staples Center will host such a fantastic event in 2017 and the weekend will be one of the true highlights of our 50th Anniversary season”, said Los Angeles alternate governor Dan Beckerman. It’s the second time the games will be held at Staples Center (the first Los Angeles All-Star Game was held at the old Forum in 1981), while the team was also host to the 2010 NHL All Star Draft.
It has been set to be Los Angeles’ third time hosting the midseason showcase and first since 2002.
The NHL will mark it’s 100th anniversary during the 2016-17 season, while the Kings will be marking their 50-year anniversary. In addition, the Kings won their two Stanley Cup championships (2012 and 2014) at Staples Center. It features a new tournament format of three 3-on-3 games among teams representing each of the league’s four divisions.
