Los Angeles Unified School District shuts due to threat, spokeswoman says
Police told the Los Angeles Times that a bomb threat was sent to a board member, prompting the district to close all schools effective immediately.
Students were all sent home on Tuesday morning, according to NBC Los Angeles, which noted that LAUSD is the second-largest school district in the US. “Before the day is over, I want every school to be searched to make sure that it is safe for children and safe for staff to be there on Wednesday”.
More details about the threat were expected to be provided during a Tuesday morning news conference.
Cortines was asked at a morning news conference why they district acted on this threat. “That’s the reason that I took the action that I did”. “We need families and neighbors to work together with our schools and with our employees to make sure our schools are safe throughout today”.
Some 640,000 students in kindergarten through 12th grade attend LAUSD, which is comprised of more than 900 schools and 187 public charter schools, according to the district’s website.
