Losing the Grammar Race: Trump Backers
Grammarly analyzed approximately 180 representative comments from each presidential candidate’s official Facebook page, choosing only positive or neutral posts to check for grammatical errors.
ThinkProgress noted Republican Facebook pages are more likely to contain errors because the party has more candidates, many of whom have more supporters on Facebook than their Democratic rivals.
A new “study” done by the grammar app Grammarly examined the Facebook comments of the supporters of all major Presidential candidates and noticed a few startling patterns.
The company summarized all of its findings in an interesting infographic you can view here.

Blatantly negative comments, or those from so-called trolls, were removed from the study, which analyzed a time period from April to August. The team then looked specifically at positive or neutral comments and ran grammar tests using both Grammarly and live proofreaders.
They then focused in on “black-and-white mistakes such as misspellings, wrong and missing punctuation, misused or missing words, and subject-verb disagreement” while ignoring “stylistic variations such as the use of common slang words, serial comma usage, and the use of numerals instead of spelled-out numbers”.
When listed individually, supporters of the five Democratic candidates were found to have the best grammar and spelling, followed by the 14 Republican supporter’s posts.
