Lost Dog Found Keeping Watch Over Trapped Friend
“A small one-woof response when we called out “Tillie”.
Duft’s two dogs, Tillie, an 11-year-old Irish Setter and Phoebe, a four-year-old Basset Hound, walked out of the front door and journeyed into the wilderness.
The animal rescue organisation Vashon Island Pet Protectors posted photos of the dogs on their Facebook page, hoping someone would spot them.
A dog has been found alive and safe at the bottom of a deep hole thanks to the stubborn love of her fellow canine friend, who stood over her for a whole week until help arrived.
Finally someone noticed Tillie turning toward a ravine, which led right to Phoebe.
“It’s really quite remarkable”, Carey said. According to animal rescue organization Vashon Island Pet Protectors (VIPP), Tillie left each day for short periods to go find help, returning each day to keep her friend company.
A loyal dog stayed and protected her trapped best friend while the pair waited days for help. The dogs were hungry and exhausted but otherwise OK.
“Within an hour of getting home, Tillie already wanted to play with her favorite toy – the tennis ball – so we did just that”, Duft said.
It was Tillie going very pointedly up to this person in their pasture, letting herself be seen, and running back to Phoebe – that’s why we found them.
The owner added that he already has a “GPS dog collar ordered and on its way” and that he “never wants to lose them again”.
