Louis mayor: No interest in trying again on NFL
Alfredo Prieto, center, joins dozens of other Rams fans at Hollywood Park on January 12, 2016, to celebrate the team’s homecoming. “It’s such a natural to have the Los Angeles Rams be in Los Angeles”. The proposed Inglewood stadium that will house the newly transitioned teams will also not be completed until 2019. The Chargers have played in San Diego for 55 seasons after one year in Los Angeles when the former AFL franchise was born. The stadium would be part of an entertainment, retail and residential complex. There’s also a good chance that another team might do the same.
Where will the games be?
Three teams – and three powerful owners – were vying for one or two spots for teams in Los Angeles.
The Coliseum, however, isn’t exactly a brand new venue.
The Rams haven’t formally secured a home stadium for next season, although they appear likely to return to the Coliseum, their home from 1946-79. The Rams generated about $4 million a year for those payments, so the city will try to make up that big chunk of money with additional events and conventions.
The move to Inglewood is to cost the Rams a reported $550 million relocation fee. Neither are single-game tickets. “It will be a lot of fun for me, as I spend a lot of time out there anyway, to move forward, to look forward and build a great stadium for our league and for Los Angeles”. Jeff Fisher is the head coach of the team, which left Los Angeles for St. Louis in 1994. “If we can reduce wait time, line time, getting in the gate, buying a hot dog, getting them to their seat so they can enjoy the action, then that’s what we’re going to do”, Furin said. So either that first season in St. Louis can be played through as normal or it can be simulated so as to reach the 2016 season immediately.
What about the Chargers (and the Raiders)?
On Tuesday, the National Football League owners voted in overwhelming favor to re-locate the Rams franchise to Los Angeles.
“I have been in contact last night and today both with the city’s negotiator, Chris Melvin, and with the City Attorney, Jan Goldsmith, so we won’t have any trouble exchanging information”, Fabiani said.
The Raiders withdrew their application for relocation and will remain in Oakland for the foreseeable future.
Levi’s Stadium is built for two teams. To make things sweeter for the people of L.A., the San Diego Chargers now have the opportunity to pack up their things and make the 111 miles trek to Los Angeles as well. For now though, owner Mark Davis says, “We’ll be working really hard to find us a home”.
