Louis Van Gaal apologises for Manchester United’s Champions League exit and
United were hoping to turn the page on their mid-week Champions League exit, but Junior Stanislas put Bournemouth in front straight from a corner after 100 seconds and although Marouane Fellaini equalised, former United trainee King punished slack defending at a corner to claim a 54th-minute victor.
Louis van Gaal insisted that Manchester United can still win the Premier League this season despite the 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth extending his team’s winless streak to five matches.
He added, “Of course I am concerned because we have lost two matches in a row and that is not a usual thing”. “That’s not normal for us because we gave a lot of attention to all the organisation but they had a few variations and they did it very well, I have to say, but still it can’t be, I believe”. But it has happened and then you know in, this kind of game, the club who scores the second goal is mostly the victor and they are also pressing the ball every time so it is also very hard to come again in your game.
Manchester United manager said that the ongoing period is “very tough” and he hasn’t lost games in a row so often.
“Now we have much more clubs who have money and also the structure and are able to win something”. They have created, in the second half, only chances out of set-plays and we have also created chances out of play on the pitch.
United have not won in their last three league matches drawing against Leicester and West Ham and were beaten by newcomers Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium 2-1.
“I read the same things – that my touch had gone – 20 years ago when I was at Barcelona and we went out at the group stage but we went on to win La Liga”. But I didn’t read it. I didn’t see that you say anything positive for (Guillermo) Varela or (Cameron) Borthwick-Jackson.
With injuries ravaging their squad, particularly in defence, Van Gaal was forced to name an inexperienced back-line on the south coast. I don’t think it is [completely] like that ” I can make the difference, in tactics and everything, but I cannot score goals”, he said.
Josh King was the match-winner for Bournemouth in the 54th minute, finding himself in lots of space to turn in a finish from a pre-planned corner routine.
“As a manager, you have to work very hard and I am working very hard, as are my players”.
Bournemouth’s goals both game from set-pieces, which Van Gaal described as “unacceptable”. You have to perform in a certain way.
“I have been here a couple of months and have seen the character we have and the manager we have”.
