Louis van Gaal commends Wayne Rooney’s admission of ‘very bad’ form
Wayne Rooney has admitted his performances in the opening games have been below par, but says he is confident the goals will come soon.
United manger Louis van Gaal should be wary of the team’s nerves as they return to the competition as it may get the best of his players – even those who have had experience in the Champions League before.
After encouraging but goalless performances in Premier League matches against Tottenham and Aston Villa, this was the night which launched his United career as he scored two stunning goals. It’s football, you have nights like that and you have to move on.
“Otherwise, Real Madrid just can wait three months and sign him for free and Manchester will make nothing from the transfer“. I’ve experienced this before and the goals will come.
Van Gaal, preparing for the early kick-off against Newcastle Unitedon Saturday, said: “It starts always with the player himself”.
My mind’s clear and I know how to play the role.
“I think when we want Pedro it was not any problem because there was a clause in his contract, ” Van Gaal said.
“I have the idea that you want to separate Ed Woodward with me”, the Dutchman told his weekly press conference.
Wayne Rooney gave United the lead in the 4th minute, only for the goal to be ruled out as the English global was marginally offside when Adnan Januzaj threaded the through ball forward.
“He knows my standards already, he knows my philosophy”.
United subsequently intimated that their interest in the Spain global had cooled and Van Gaal said that he was not disappointed to have missed out on signing him.
Despite letting Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao leave over the summer, the United boss is determined to stick with Rooney, Javier Hernandez and James Wilson as his three main strikers.
Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben has been quoted by the Daily Star claiming midfielder Memphis Depay will play a huge part in Manchester United’s season.
“People have to know that what is written in the papers is not true”.
Shaw also hailed the importance of Memphis’s late assist for Marouane Fellaini, which ensured that United take a two-goal cushion into the crucial second leg.
