Louis van Gaal wants more from Manchester United
Daley Blind praises Manchester United’s work ethic throughout the match in their 1-0 victory over Aston Villa in their Premier League clash.
Manchester United were patient, though, and Tim Sherwood’s men paid quickly began to tire allowing their foothold in the game to slip. “The result gives our squad confidence and I changed my line-up and it didn’t matter”.
Louis van Gaal refused to offer any assurances Adnan Januzaj will stay at Manchester United this season despite his victor at Aston Villa. “A lot of players, I can say more, so we have to improve that”.
“It felt good to get the goal because I’ve not had a game for a long time and my fitness is not so good, so I’m happy to score for the team and score the victor”. “I’m very happy… we don’t give many chances away and every game we have more chances than the opponent and that’s the game”.
The Belgian found himself on the end of a brilliant pass from Juan Mata from where he shot past Brad Guzan, through a melee of Villa players.
“There were a lot of unnecessary ball losses [from Januzaj]”. “But, in the second half, once the substitutes came on, we played very controlled and could have scored more than the one goal”.
And while United have not bought a striker this summer he feels he has enough options in the position, with Adnan Januzaj, Javier Hernandez and James Wilson offering competition for places.
“Frans Hoek… he has a meeting with David de Gea and he asked him: ‘Do you want to play?’ [De Gea said “No”]”.
Sherwood took the Villa Park reins in February and subsequently steered the West Midlands side to Premier League safety and an FA Cup final appearance. That’s my benefit of this period.
“The players are still acclimatising to England, let alone the football, but it’s going to take time”, he said.
He added: “The start to the season is better than last year, but that is not so hard. It’s not flawless, but they will improve”.
The Villa manager told of how he thougt they “had a shout” for the penalty, but felt that it was one of those where “sometimes you do, sometimes you don’t” – in terms of getting the decision.
