Louisiana Stabbings: Officer Shot To Death, 3 Women Stabbed During ‘Domestic
It is unclear who exactly has died, whether it includes the police officer who was shot or the two stabbing victims.
A Louisiana police officer responding to a call of a man stabbing women was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
Police fired tear gas and stormed the food mart, which was on fire, when attempts by Riley’s brother to get him to surrender peacefully failed, St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said. She says people were trying to escape and the man “was shoving people around, asking where my dad was”.
Police have told local journalists that Wiley may have taken drugs before going on his rampage. “We’re going to do a thorough investigation as to what he was high on”.
The slain Sunset police officer, initially reported to have survived his gunshot wounds, was identified as Henry Nelson, 51.
They are sisters of the mayor of nearby Grand Coteau, Shaterral Johnson. Their relationship, if any, to the suspect, was unclear. The suspect had barricaded himself inside an office in the mini-mart but was eventually apprehended around 6:25 p.m.
Guidroz said he was told Riley is originally from New Orleans and has an extensive criminal history there.
Wiley suffered tear gas burns to his face and neck.
The latest on a police officer being shot and three people being stabbed in Sunset, La. All three of them were able to flee safely as the suspect came into the minimart’s front area.
Sunset is located 10 miles north of Lafayette and 10 miles south of Opelousas.
