Louisiana Tech QB Higgins arrested on DUI charge
Starting Louisiana Tech redshirt senior QB Ryan Higgins was arrested on DWI and speeding charges early Friday morning.
He was booked on one count of speeding and one count of DWI.
Head coach Skip Holtz said in statement that he was “aware of the situation” but wanted to gather more information and talk to “all of the parties involved” before making any additional comments. A sobriety test revealed Higgins’ blood alcohol content to be.119, well above the legal limit. He started six games that season and was 166-281 passing for 1,715 yards, six touchdowns and 13 picks.
Higgins has patiently waited for his turn to start again after Tech brought in graduate transfers each of the past two seasons.
Higgins was supposed to be the starting quarterback the last two years, but each year he was replaced with someone else.
Tech reports to fall camp Sunday and practices Monday for the first time.
The Bulldogs kickoff their 2016 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 3 against the Arkansas Razorbacks.
It’s unclear what punishment Higgins will face.
There is some bad news for what was expected to be a very major player for the Louisiana Tech football program this season.
