Louisiana trooper dies in shooting
That driver wrestled the shotgun away from Daigle, and, with the others, got him to the ground, and snapped Vincent’s handcuffs on his wrists, Edmonson said.
“We need to let (law enforcement) know how much we appreciate what they do and care for the family that’s left (behind)”, Beam said.
LeDoux relayed his story to The Associated Press in an exclusive interview Monday.
Robert LeDoux was just down the road a bit when three men pulled him over and told him not to go any closer.
“As he approached, the suspect told him, “‘Everything’s all right. Mind your own business. Youre lucky youre going to die soon. The risks Vincent took on a daily basis in service to the public make his loss “all the more tough”.
LeDoux, who declined to speak, then radioed for help, Edmonson said.
Police have called him a hero.
LeDoux described how he tackled and restrained the man, called 911 and worked with others who arrived on the scene to keep the suspect subdued and help the trooper. James Anderson told the Daily News.
Daigle was booked into Calcasieu Parish jail on several charges including first-degree murder of a police officer.
The death of the man, whose name has not yet been released, is being investigated as a homicide, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso said.
Upon arrival, a sheriff’s deputy found the man dead and signs of a struggle.
The man’s identity was not immediately released.
Meanwhile, the Louisiana State Police Troopers Association has set up an account through their website to accept donations for Vincent’s family. No one answered the door. We had no reason to believe foul play was involved.
“He’s a citizen that has a criminal history in our community”, Mancuso said.
After the trooper arrived, he realized it matched the description of a reported reckless vehicle and started talking to Kevin Daigle – its sole occupant. Vincent had been trying to help a man whose pickup truck was stuck sideways in a ditch, Col. Mike Edmonson said. 14 just outside Bell City. One of Vincent’s brothers is also a state trooper and another is a local police chief. “That’s what that was, and I watched that shotgun blast in that tape”. I saw my trooper go backwards and back toward his unit, where he was going to try to get some help out there, Edmonson said.
Daigle is white and so was Vincent, he said.

The police suspect Daigle had been drinking and said another type of drug was in his system, but gave no further details.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal ordered flags at state buildings to be flown at half-staff until Friday. He is survived by a wife and son.
