Louisiana Trooper in critical condition after being shot in the head
“It doesn’t look good right now so we’re asking for prayers”, said Col. Mike Edmonson, head of the state police.
At a Sunday night news conference in Lake Charles carried live by KPLC-TV (http://bit.ly/1Ed3Lta), he said Vincent was hit by two or three buckshot pellets.
At this time, the investigation into the incident remains ongoing with Daigle to be booked on charges of Attempted First Degree Murder of a Police Officer in addition to several other related charges. The original story is below.
He says 54-year-old Kevin Daigle of Lake Charles told Vincent, “You’re lucky, you’re going to die”.
Vincent, who was shot in the head, suffered neurological damage, Edmonson said.
When he arrived, a Dodge pickup truck driven by Daigle was in a ditch at the corner of La.
Vincent is a family man with a 9 year old son and also has a brother who is a police chief in a neighboring town. Edmondson said that in video of the encounter, he could hear Vincent offering assistance to Daigle.
Daigle shot Vincent in the head with a sawed off shotgun and, as he paced around the scene, some courageous civilians rushed in to check on the officer.
The man wrestled the shotgun from Daigle, wrestled Daigle to the ground and used Vincent’s handcuffs to restrain him. The trooper was in critical condition, and the man who allegedly fired at him was in custody after being captured by passing drivers. James Anderson, Senior Trooper Steven Vincent, 43, was responding to a vehicle driving in an unsafe manner on La Hwy 14 east near Fruge Road, Sunday around 2:45 p.m.
